Issues related to the environment are hotly discussed and debated throughout the year by various countries. Since environment is a global phenomenon, many countries get together at each discussion. All aspects of the environment are discussed. All environment protection groups also get activated during these discussions, and try to make their presence felt through demonstrations protesting specific violations of the environment in various regions. The media of course gets enough to talk about, and broadcasts regular reports related to the environment. Concerns for the environment involve not only humans, but also all species that survive on this planet. These could be plant life, animals, birds, and marine life. Many species are protected since they face extinction, and there are stiff penalties for harming them.
Other important aspects that are causing greater concern are air pollution, noise, and waste disposal particularly from industries. Many industries regularly discharge untreated waste into the ground reservoirs, or even in the rivers and sea. Most such waste is toxic, and injurious to all living species. Even if discharged into underground reservoirs, this waste can seep into the surrounding soil and contaminate water reserves. All industries are expected to install waste treatment plants to remove all toxic content before the waste is discharged to the rivers or seas or underground reservoirs. Regular monitoring of the discharged waste is also done by the law enforcement agencies, and strict action is taken against all violators.
Improving the environment is among the major thrust areas for all countries. Planting more trees is among the more popular activities that are conducted throughout the year in most countries. Reducing vehicle emissions is an important measure in large cities. Control of noise levels is also enforced in large cities. Improving air quality gets greater importance as awareness is increased among all sections of society. People are regularly made aware of small actions that make a big difference to the environment – like not littering public spaces, not burning anything that creates smoke in public, disposing their garbage after segregating recyclable and non-recyclable content, and so on. Environment campaigns are also conducted.
