Fun Ways to Recycle Beverage Bottles

Ever wonder if there was something you could do with all of those empty beverage bottles and jugs that fill up your recycling bin every week? Try any one of these or invent a new use yourself.

Build a Better Bird Feeder

Turn your empty 2 liter pop bottle into a spiffy bird feeder.

1. Wash and dry the bottle

2. Poke holes on either side of the neck of the bottle, just below the screw top ridge.  Thread a length of wire or     string through the holes and tie string with a square knot or twist to secure the wire.

3. About 5 inches from the bottom of the bottle cut two small x’s into opposite sides of the bottle. An inch or two above the cut x’s, cut a hole about the diameter of a dime.

4. Insert a 10-12 inch length of dowel or a wooden spoon through the x shaped slits. The small circles above the dowel allow bird’s to eat the seed.

5. Unscrew the cap and fill the feeder with bird seed. Hang your feeder in a sunny spot.

Make a Pet Food Scoop

Use your empty milk jug as a pet food scoop.

1. Screw the lid on tightly and turn the jug so that the handle is facing up.

2. Make a mark halfway between the end of the handle and the bottom of the jug. Make another mark 3 inches up from the bottom of the jug.

3. Cut away the top of the jug using your marks as a guide.

4. Wash and dry your new scoop.

There are literally hundreds of other fun things to make from recycled beverage containers. Have fun!
